What is LinkedIn’s Career Outcome Tracker? LinkedIn
Last year, we introduced our Career Outcome Tracker, a new method of combining LinkedIn’s unique first-party data with organizational data to help workforce development programs access real-time insights on how their training is shaping participants’ career paths.
We developed this offering in response to a key pain point we hear continually from our network of partners preparing people for the workforce: tracking what actually happens to learners after they complete training is really difficult. This data has always been critical to measuring and assessing program impact, but becomes even more urgent in today’s rapidly changing labor market. With 70% of skills for jobs projected to change by 2030 accelerated by AI, all organizations must be evolving their programming to meet future labor market demands.
Over the last 6 months, we expanded our Career Outcome Tracker pilot offering to a global cohort of 6 new nonprofit organizations, each seeking to use LinkedIn’s data to understand their program outcomes – from confirming employment, to analyzing industry representation, employer retention and more.
What’s the Impact? impact
Using LinkedIn’s unique first-party data, organizations uncovered meaningful insights on the career pathways of their program participants:
- Validating employment in target industries: 90% of ReDI School alumni are employed or engaged in further studies; nearly 9 out of 10 Foundation for Excellence (FFE) scholars are successfully employed, with over 65% building careers in engineering and technology.
- Informing future program design: SkillUp uncovered that career pathways are often non-linear - education attained is not the primary driver of industry entered.
- Cross-cohort comparison & employer retention: Year Up United uncovered that amongst their largest employer partners, nearly ⅓ of graduates hired 6 years ago are still with the same company.
Here’s what our partners have to say about their experience with Career Outcomes Tracker:
“We are excited to partner with LinkedIn to better understand workforce trends impacting individuals skilled through alternative routes (STARs). We’re especially interested in understanding the non-linear nature of non-degree career growth and how skills, experience and opportunity come together to create meaningful advancement over time” - Elissa Salas, Chief Strategy Officer, SkillUp Coalition
Looking Ahead future
Thanks to ETS, Foundation for Excellence, Generation, Per Scholas, ReDI School of Digital Integration, SkillUp Coalition, and Year Up United for joining our expanded pilot program. As we look towards the future, our goal is to equip more workforce development and educational organizations with the real-time insights and feedback loops necessary to ensure their programs are best positioned to connect people to opportunity in the AI-powered world of work.
