How I felt during the job search was a sense comparable to being lost in the sea, left out by yourself, especially as a young adult, to try to figure it out all on your own. SkillUp gave me the confidence I needed.
Hi, my name is Danyal Ahmed. Before working with SkillUp, I would use a job search engine to try to apply to different industries and jobs, to no avail. I found networking events quite difficult as they were a way of connecting with people but not really getting anywhere. I was doing a hybrid work job and I was trying to discover like what that remote experience was like for other people. Because I sensed a feeling of alienation at first, working from home and not really having a sense of community.
The first time I found SkillUp was actually through LinkedIn. I was at a time where I was looking to find a career path for myself, and I couldn't really just figure it out on my own. I had an idea of what I wanted to do, but I had no idea how to actually pursue it. With SkillUp, it gave you a sense of guidance, especially with their learning session where they'll teach you skills such as resume building, what type of industries are beneficial to you, and what type of growth path you can take.
One of the seminars I went to was explaining how to sell yourself as a story. SkillUp gave me the idea that I can talk about myself like a storybook character. I had a trial and tribulation and I got past it and I'm growing. That was one of the best developments for me because now when I went to any interviews going forward, it built a sense of drive, and that was something that really sold my talent to hiring managers, my coworkers, and eventually even my upper supervisors and bosses.
My favorite thing about SkillUp is those coaching events. I can talk to a community of people who are like me, trying to figure themselves out career-wise or socially, and being able to make genuine connections with them and to get that beneficial help by professionals. Figuring it out on your own was really hard, especially for younger people going right out of high school or even college who don't know what the industry they want to get into or what the market could hold for them.
SkillIUp offers a roadmap to get to the career they desire and eventually, the lifestyle they want. I see SkillUp as a stepping stone to greater things for a lot of people.
