Quality Career Guidance, When You Need It
Exploring career possibilities and still finding yourself stuck? Start a conversation with SkillUp's My Career Coach (beta). Powered by SkillUp's handpicked and researched catalog of careers, trainings, and jobs - built for people who can't afford to chase the wrong path or don't have the time to get a college degree.
How to Get Started with My Career Coach
Sam's goal is to connect YOU to SkillUp's existing catalog of career paths in a more meaningful way. You can browse on your own. Or, let Sam do the work. Quickly get matched with careers, trainings, or open jobs that don't require a degree with your unique Drives, Skills, Interests, Training and Education, and Career History.
Sam is our first and only persona during the Beta launch. If Sam is struggling to address your concerns properly, use the 👎 button to let us know how Sam can improve.
- Talk or type with you
- Recall your previous conversations. No starting over.
- Compare SkillUp's catalog careers side-by-side
- Map your transferable skills between catalog careers
- Give specific wage data for catalog careers
- Recommend training programs — cost, duration, location, credential
- Surface job postings — salary, company, location
- Make data-grounded comparisons involving non-catalog careers
- Claim how progression works in non-catalog occupations
- Give wage data, programs, or jobs for careers outside the 66-career catalog
Let Sam Get To Know You and Build Your Profile
Here's how My Career Coach will use the info you choose to share to build your profile, reflect on your needs, skills, and history, and provide you with next steps to start a new career path.
Give Sam a quick intro to who you are, what you need, and where you can see yourself going. Sam will ask you follow-up questions to begin tailoring your career path options.
Check on your My Career Coach tabs. You can follow what Sam's been building for you. This information will still be there if you need to pick this up tomorrow. And you can ask Sam to change something if a career idea is no longer what you want.
Based on where in your career journey you've told Sam that you are - the AI will then give you the next step. Links to training programs or jobs to begin applying!
Your Profile, Built From Conversation
The About Me section is your My Career Coach profile. These insights come from your coaching conversations. They update as you share more. You can also ask Sam to change something if it is no longer relevant to your career search.
What Drives You - Sam will pick up on what gives you purpose and what motivates you to towards a new career path.
Your Skills - The AI may directly reference your words or make assumptions about your skills based on your previous roles, experiences, and education.
Your General Info - Holds your info like income and geography preferences when recommending training and jobs.
Interests and Preferences - In addition to careers that offer living wages, growth, and learning, we want to make sure the work you do is actually what YOU want as well.
Education and Career History - Where we can, let's match you with the skills and history you already have.
Careers Picked For You, Not Just Listed For Everyone.
Here is a collection of possible career paths that you and the career coach have discussed. You can click on one to then see the recommended path to follow.
The careers you'll see here are part of SkillUp's catalog, which match our specific quality standards to only showcase opportunities that:
- Don’t require a college degree
- Pay a living wage
- Offer growth and promotion potential
- Can be accessed with affordable, short-term training
Every career shown here is handpicked by SkillUp's researchers — not pulled from an algorithm. If you want to explore something different, just ask Sam to find more options from our catalog.
The My Path Section
Now that you and the AI Career Coach picked a path (or two, or three), you can see your next steps in the My Path section. We may be biased, but this section is most important - as it connects you back to SkillUp's researched, sought-after skills, affordable and accessible training programs, and hand-picked career titles that you can actually achieve without a 4-year degree.
The section will outline:
Skills to Build
Training Programs to Consider
